Bringing the Great Outdoors Indoors

Josh and I love the great outdoors! Last weekend we took Riley on her first real nature hike out at Barneyville. It was so much fun.

Along the way, we got inspired to collect items to use as decoration in our house. I picked up some beautiful pine cones:

Josh picked up some cedar branches, but he hasn't decided what to do with them yet. He has mentioned making an end table out of them. I've also seen them used as a coat/hat rack in a magazine.

In addition, we had some stones that Josh brought home from our honeymoon. That's a funny story. Josh collected rocks while we were in Montana. When we went to the airport to fly home, his suitcase weighed too much because it was full of rocks. He had to take most of them out, but he was still able to bring some of them home. Now we have them displayed in a bowl:

And tonight we're going to make them into our "spiritual markers." Our Experiencing God class asked us to do a spiritual inventory of our lives and encouraged us to make spiritual markers of the personal ways we have experienced God in our lives. So Josh got a great idea to turn these stones into our spiritual markers. I finally found a paint pen to borrow, so we're going to write on the stones tonight. I hope I don't mess them up. I don't always have the best handwriting.

Do you have any good "environmental" decoration ideas? Our house is tiny, so I don't think we have space to do too much, but I still love hearing people's ideas. Do share!

I read this post and it made me laugh because Trey and I collected TONS of shells on our honeymoon and have them displayed in a glass bowl in our bathroom! =) Love the pine cone idea too!
