Last week Joshua had his two month check-up. He weighed 14 pounds and was 24 inches long. He's already wearing six month clothes!
He had to get several shots and boy, did they make him sleepy! I don't remember that happening with Riley. Thankfully, my friend Ashley reassured me that one of her sons did the same thing after his two month shots. So once I knew that, I could rest easy and enjoy the peace and quiet.
On that note, I can't believe how easy Joshua has become!!! Our family is definitely entering a new season of (hopefully) more sleep. Josh and I are amazed at how good God is. He literally carried us through this semester, both of us living on very little sleep. Then, Joshua started sleeping through the night the exact week that Josh graduated. So... that means no more late night/early morning feeding for me and no more late night/early morning paper writing for Josh. How neat is that?! (Also, Riley is FINALLY back to taking awesome afternoon naps. She wouldn't nap at all for about the first six weeks we had Joshua. I'm not sure if it was from teething, from a growth spurt, or just from adjusting to a new baby, but she's now napping for three hours again. Praise Jesus!!!!)
Ok, back to Joshua. That sweet little boy has totally worked his way into my heart. He is such a charmer. He smiles and coos at me and his eyes follow me wherever I go. He loves his sister and she loves giving him kisses, too! He also loves when I fold laundry. I set him on the floor on a blanket next to me while I fold laundry and he laughs everytime I shake something out before folding it. I'm not sure if it's the fact that it kinda blows air on him or if it's the bright colors, but either way, he enjoys it. I've also seen him try to grab at toys already. (Again, I can't get over how different he and his sister are. I don't remember Riley trying to grab toys at this age. She was all about kicking her legs... Joshua, not so much.)
He still has very short awake times... usually no longer than an hour. He has a very easy tired signal: yawning. I try to put him back down as soon as I see the first yawn. And usually if I do that, he goes right to sleep without any crying. Even if I miss that first yawn, he still goes to sleep pretty easily now unless it's in the evening. That's his fussy time (which is soooooo much better than 2 a.m. like it used to be). He can sleep through many more noises than Riley ever could. Not sure if that's his personality or if that just comes with being the second child and having to learn to sleep through noises more often than the first.
Joshua is still spitting up after every feeding. We go through a TON of burp cloths every day. His doctor confirmed that he has reflux but since he has gained weight so well and since he's hardly crying anymore, she let me choose whether or not to give him reflux medicine. I've chosen not to do the meds for now. I never had to give Riley any meds her first year of life and I just personally feel better not doing meds. Of course, if he stops gaining weight or becomes really fussy again, I can just call my doctor and she'll give me the medicine. My main concern is the fact that he doesn't get much tummy time at all because he has to be held up for thirty minutes after eating (due to his reflux) and usually by the time that thirty minutes is up, he's ready to go back to sleep (or needs a quick bath). Oh well.
We're still working on a nickname for Joshua. I find myself calling him 'J' most of the time and Josh is calling him 'Cub.' He definitely looks like a little cub in our opinion. A little cub that we love to snuggle!!!
