When it comes to news, I care a lot about the source. In fact, that may be all I care about. It has to be a credible source for me to believe it. (Maybe that has something to do with being a PR major... I know how incredibly easy it is to twist the news to fit a particular "agenda.")
So when the Haiti earthquake happened, my friend Rachel informed me of a blog by a Christian family who has actually lived and worked in Haiti for several years. Perhaps you've heard of them: the Livesay family. A Bible-believing eyewitness account... hmmm, can't get more credible than that, in my humble opinion.
Thus, I've been following their blog ever since the earthquake. Some of their posts have broken my heart and some have brought great rejoicing. However, one thing they've hinted at in some of the posts has caused total frustration. It seems that some powerful people or organizations, namely Unicef, are causing hold-ups and major time delays in getting help to the children of Haiti.
In the top left-hand corner of their blog, Mr. Livesay's tweets appear and the other day he posted a link to a video on vimeo that he believes shows "the other [true] side of the story." I encourage you to go here and watch it as well. It will only take ten minutes of your time and I believe it's worth it.
I know some local families that might actually be getting some Haitian children in the very near future and I pray that they do! I pray that God's hand works mightily in all of this and that His glory is proclaimed. Will you please join in me in praying over these precious (and desperate) Haitian children?
